Not Enough Capital For The Capital?

A new report by the Halifax Building Society shows that Winchester is now the least affordable place in the UK to buy a house. The historical capital of Wessex now costs more to live in than the actual capital of the UK (London), as do Oxford and Bath.

Employers, particularly in the public sector, often add a London weighting to pay in order to offset the high cost of living there, but people living and working in these other cities usually have to make do with national pay scales, though police forces in the Home Counties typically pay their employees more than forces elsewhere.

As a party which believes in boosting local economies. the Wessex Regionalists seek a housing policy that benefits the people of Winchester, rather than allowing it to become a dormitory town for commuters to London. The Great Wen cannot continue indefinitely draining the economic life out of Wessex.
